A Committee member said state funding is supporting a trail behind Northwest Park that will link to a developer-built trail along a new subdivision and ultimately tie into the 16th Street Trail, improving safe routes to Veterans Park and nearby schools.
Staff member reported completion of the boulevard tree program (five trees on 12th Street NW and two maples at the soccer park) and said two lindens donated by a homeowner will be repurposed to replace several dead trees at Veterans Park. He also reported an electrical fault under the NorthOne scoreboard; electric crews will locate and repair the underground fault.
Committee members discussed sidewalk gaps in parts of town (notably 7th Street NE), noting sidewalk installation depended on developer requirements and road projects; members said some sidewalks are only partial blocks and that future road reconstruction offers an opportunity to fill gaps.
On recreation programming, staff and members flagged a decline in adult softball participation — from five teams last year to a stable four this season — and discussed keeping adult options while recognizing shifting interest to activities like pickleball. Committee members suggested Community Ed could provide lessons or equipment to grow newer activities.
The board did not take formal votes on these items; staff will continue coordination with contractors and report back on the scoreboard repair and trail timelines.
