At its June 17 meeting the Kasson City Park Board received an update on fundraising and plans for an inclusive playground swing to be sited near the pool and the existing playground.
Staff member said the project has $16,036 in committed funds, including a SHIP grant that was still pending. He said concrete sidewalk labor for the approach could be fully donated but that covering that concrete with poured-in-place surfacing would add about $4,000.
"16,036," the staff member said when asked to confirm the total. He added that volunteers are willing to help with labor and that staff and a volunteer named Sarah are discussing whether to pursue additional joint ventures if needed.
The staff member said the preferred location would be between the pool sidewalk and the existing playground; he plans to have the swing in hand and to aim for installation in September, noting that October could be late because staff begin winterization work. Committee members discussed installation timing, protective surfacing options (engineered wood chips vs. poured-in-place), vandalism and accessibility concerns, and agreed to firm up a fundraising deadline.
Staff will calculate a final tally of costs, confirm donated concrete labor, and return with a precise budget and installation timeline. If the city receives the pending SHIP grant and volunteer labor holds, staff expects to install the swing in September.
