EDA reviews Elevate Hennepin participation, applied Hennepin County storefront grant

Staff said Dayton currently pays $2,500 a year for Elevate Hennepin and that the county will convene advisors locally for a "Thriving Thursdays" event; members requested that staff ensure Dayton businesses are notified. Staff also reported the city applied for county storefront grants (county program total reported at about $225,000). "Cities can apply for up to $50,000," staff said, and if Dayton receives funds the program would offer individual storefront grants of up to $15,000 on a 1-to-1 match basis.
Board members emphasized the need to verify which local firms used Elevate’s services and to gather direct feedback before deciding whether to renew the city’s membership. Staff said Hennepin County representatives could present locally in December to clarify services and usage.
Next steps: staff will identify the five Dayton businesses reported as having used Elevate services, invite Hennepin County to present in Dayton and, if the storefront grant is awarded in January, administer the city-side application and outreach.
