Bradley County Insurance Committee recommends continuing Cigna coverage; resolution placed on Nov. 3 agenda

Commissioner Tommy Ledford reported that the county's Insurance Committee met last week and "voted unanimously to recommend continuing employee health care coverage with Cigna." He said he placed a resolution on the Nov. 3, 2025, Voting Session agenda that would authorize Mayor D. Gary Davis to continue coverage with Cigna Health and Life Insurance Company and offer four enrollment options to employees without changing current benefits.
Commissioner Scott Gilbert urged the county to "shop insurance," calling the proposed five percent increase "approximately two hundred seventy-five thousand dollars ($275,000.00)" significant and suggesting the county seek better pricing. The Insurance Committee's unanimous recommendation was presented as the committee's formal advice; the full commission had not yet voted on the resolution during the Oct. 27 work session.
No motion, second or commission vote on the resolution was recorded at the work session. The item was placed on the Nov. 3 voting-session agenda for formal consideration by the commission.
