Council OKs standardized hangar and tie-down leases at Huntsville Municipal Airport

HUNTSVILLE — The City Council approved authorization for the city manager to enter into standardized hangar building and tie-down lease agreements at Huntsville Municipal Airport.
City staff (Lane) told the council the lease template comes from TxDOT Aviation and will put tenants on 12-month terms with the option to pay monthly or annually. Lane said the leases will preserve current rates, require hangars to be used primarily for aviation purposes to comply with FAA expectations, and include enforcement language for unpaid or abandoned aircraft. "This template ... came from TxDOT Aviation as a standard template that they use throughout the state for general aviation airports," Lane said.
Staff also said the airport maintains a tenant list with about 58 based aircraft and that the city will populate lease details using that list. Council moved, seconded and approved the authorization; no council opposition was recorded at the meeting.
The authorization standardizes leasing terms and gives staff direction to execute agreements; individual lease details and any future ground-lease or developer-built hangars will be handled under their respective agreements.
