Saline County Wellness Committee approves 2021 program, orders Fitbits and sets 2021 health fair dates

Tim McDermott, chair of the committee, said the committee approved the final draft of the 2021 program at its November meeting and that the County Board adopted the program on Nov. 10, 2020. Committee members reported that new program booklets and materials were ordered and distributed to employees who signed up for the program.
Committee discussion centered on how participants will record exercise. Members agreed to continue offering two participation options for 2021 — an all-portal wearable option and a manual monthly-upload option — while announcing a full transition to wearables for 2022. The committee approved budgeting to purchase wearable devices and voted to order at least 20 Fitbit Charge 4 units to obtain a volume discount.
Jamie Houser, committee secretary, summarized participation counts reported to the committee: 88 participation signup sheets were received for 2021, of which 77 employees indicated they would participate, 11 rejected participation, and 29 had not responded. Tim McDermott said the committee supplied incentive calculations to the payroll clerk to implement premium-discount incentives tied to the program.
The committee also set health-fair dates for winter 2021. The planned employee health fairs are Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021 (Law Enforcement Center, for LEC employees) and Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2021 (Courthouse Assembly Room, open to all employees). Tim McDermott said Madonna Fit-for-Work would be contacted to confirm booking and COVID-19 safety limitations.
The committee emphasized implementation steps: ordering devices, finalizing portal setup and sign-up information in the November newsletter, and publishing advanced sign-up forms. The committee will continue to monitor participation levels and distribution of devices ahead of the announced 2022 all-wearable transition.
