Saline County Wellness Committee expands 2021 program offerings and awards vaccine incentive points
Summary
Between February and July 2021 the committee scheduled classes and mini-challenges, ran a health fair with adjusted hours for COVID-19, tracked webinar participation, continued MyVia/WorkWell setup, and agreed to award 200 Wellness points to employees who provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
The Saline County Wellness Committee used meetings from February through July 2021 to adapt its 2021 Wellness Program around COVID-19, expand offerings and set incentives for employee participation.
The committee postponed many in-person wellness classes until late spring or summer because of COVID-19 but worked to schedule alternatives. Jennifer Retchless suggested contacting Stephani Roth of Crete Area Medical Center (referenced as CAMC in earlier minutes) to present a 'Plant Based Eating' class; the committee later reported that a plant-based session on March 31 had 10 participants and was well received. Jamie Woltemath and Tim McDermott coordinated scheduling and follow-up with the presenter.
The committee ran several mini-challenges and webinars: a Holiday Bingo challenge concluded with 13 participants; the 'Shamrock Shuffle' run by Saline County Aging Services was used as a mini-challenge with participants or volunteers earning 50 points; a Water Challenge was planned for May (up to 60 points, deadline June 4); and a '100 Miles in 100 Days' mini-challenge was planned for mid-July. Continuum webinar offerings included 'Fixing Your Broken Sleep' (Jan–Mar) and 'Master Your Mind: Emotional and Physical Health Connections' (Apr–Jun), with certificate-return deadlines stated in the minutes.
For the 2021 Health Fair the committee recorded 31 employees at the Law Enforcement Center and 39 at the Courthouse in early planning, and later reported 75 total participants after the event; the fair’s schedule was extended an hour to permit social distancing. The committee also continued technical setup with WorkWell for the MyVia portal; minutes show 81 employees signed up for MyVia for the 2021 program in February, and staff were asked to reconcile MyVia participation points with submitted booklet exercise points.
On April 6 the committee approved awarding 200 Wellness points to employees who provide a copy of their COVID-19 vaccination card to Jamie as proof. The committee also approved incentives for the 2020 program, including a $300 VISA grand prize (winner: Anita Novotny), and tasked Jamie with submitting claims to the board to purchase earned gift cards.
The committee discussed program platform costs for 2022 (including the expense of potential platforms such as Virgin Pulse) and agreed to keep activity alternatives (not only step counting) and continue MyVia for 2022 planning.
