City announces winter-response statistics and schedule of data-center workshops

Deputy City Manager Ryan McHugh reported to the council on winter response efforts and outlined a schedule of upcoming data-center workshops intended to inform residents and elected officials.
McHugh said emergency warming sites would remain open through Saturday and listed locations including the gifts men's shelter on North Washington Street, Mercy Health ER lobby and First Congregational UCC Church. He also reviewed snow-response staffing and operations, citing approximately 11.6 inches of accumulation between Jan. 16 and Jan. 22 and noting staff-hours and citations issued during the winter weather event.
On the data-center issue, McHugh announced a workshop series to address energy (Feb. 9), economic and tax impacts (Feb. 23), water usage (March 23) and labor/education/jobs (April 13), with workshops beginning at 5:15 p.m. in the council chambers. He encouraged residents to consult the city’s dedicated data-center website and sign up for city communications for updates.
The announcements were made during the reports section before the council considered the citizen petition and ordinance discussion. The workshops are presented as opportunities for the public to hear subject-matter experts and to inform subsequent council consideration of development proposals.
