The Committee of the Whole in Isanti City reviewed the draft budget and revised the city’s goals for 2025, removing the proposed curbside leaf-pickup goal because staff estimates showed it was not feasible.
The chair explained efforts to find a cost-effective approach failed and said, "You're not gonna be able to do it for under a $100,000, basically." After discussion, councilors agreed to remove the leaf-pickup goal from next year’s objectives.
Councilors kept two signage goals — a dynamic corner sign and a liquor-store sign — on the list for further discussion and suggested separating them as distinct topics for return discussions. One member asked that Keith Lusk be present to explain return-on-investment and cost questions.
Finance Director Nick Solberg will bring an updated draft to the Nov. 5 meeting (and potentially Nov. 18) so council can decide whether a dedicated budget work session is needed ahead of the Truth in Taxation deadline. The committee agreed to schedule at least one focused budget session and retain flexibility to set the final levy before year-end.
