Colbert County Schools board approves personnel changes, matching funds and multiple facility bids

At its Feb. 19 meeting the Colbert County Schools Board unanimously approved personnel recommendations (resignations, long‑term substitutes, leaves), matching funds for Colbert Heights Elementary, athletics supplement transfers, and several bids including walk‑in cooler/freezer replacements, auditorium HVAC and countywide intercom replacement.
The Colbert County Schools Board of Education on Feb. 19 approved a slate of routine items including personnel recommendations, school matching funds, athletics supplement transfers and multiple facility and technology bids.
Superintendent Nathan Fuller recommended approval of the consent agenda, which included minutes from Jan. 15 and Feb. 9, 2026, and reconciled monthly financial reports. The reports cited payrolls of $2,836,519.97 for October 2025 and $2,890,963.81 for November 2025. The board approved the consent agenda unanimously on a motion by David Yarber, seconded by Thomas Burgess.
The board approved personnel actions recommended by the superintendent, covering resignations and retirements (examples listed in the minutes include Allen Brown, James Thorn, Russ Elam and Sherry Richie), contract employment and the appointment of long‑term substitutes, and leaves of absence for several teachers and staff. The personnel motions passed unanimously on a motion by David Yarber, seconded by Jacqueline Witt.
The board also approved matching funds for Colbert Heights Elementary — $4,065.21 toward new stage risers (total $8,130.43) and $1,225 toward painted plastic sign faces (total $2,450) — on a motion by Thomas Burgess. Changes to the athletics supplement list at Cherokee High School (transfers of remainder supplements for boys track and drama) were approved on a motion by Jacqueline Witt.
On facilities and procurement, the board approved Bid #25‑04 for walk‑in cooler/freezer replacement at Colbert Heights High School and Cherokee Elementary School, naming Singer H&R as the lowest responsive bidder; the project will be funded through A&T Plus funds and scheduled for summer. The board also approved the lowest responsible bidders for the Colbert Heights High School auditorium HVAC project and Technology Bid #2026‑01 for countywide intercom replacement. All motions passed unanimously.
Agenda Item iv — the proposed relocation of the Central Office, Bus Shop and Maintenance Shop — was removed from the agenda before consideration. The meeting adjourned at 6:24 p.m.
