Severance Youth Council adopts mission to 'Foster Leadership, Respect, and Community Engagement'

The Severance Youth Council on Feb. 2 adopted a mission statement and a set of goals to guide its activities, and it unanimously approved its Jan. 5 meeting minutes.
Town Manager Nicholas Wharton led the discussion on mission, vision and goals. The Youth Council "came to the consensus of the mission statement to be 'Fostering Leadership, Respect, and Community Engagement within the Youth of Severance.'" Members also agreed the Council’s goals will focus on making the community better for future youth, giving teens a voice in local government, engaging youth in community service and providing new ideas and perspectives.
The meeting opened with a roll call and a procedural motion: Vice-Chair Mackenzie Williams moved to approve the Jan. 5, 2026 meeting minutes, and Secretary Summer Flores seconded; all members present voted yes and the motion passed.
Before the mission discussion, Finance Director Jacquelyn Grossnickle presented an overview of how the Town manages municipal finances and how funds are used for programs and services. The presentation was provided as background for the Council’s planning and goal-setting.
Council Chair Torry Rowell presided over the meeting. The Council did not record a formal vote on the mission statement; minutes note the group reached consensus during the discussion. The meeting adjourned at 6:04 p.m.
