Commission approves transfer of surplus parcel at 5300 East Burgess Ave. to abutting landowner

County staff described the abutting-landowner program to commissioners on March 17 and recommended declaring a listed parcel surplus and transferring it to the highest bidding abutting owner under program rules. Staff said eligible parcels come from the Marion County tax-lien sale, are assessed at less than $50,000 and may be transferred only to owners who are current on property taxes and own contiguous land.
Staff presented a map and noted one parcel is effectively split across a house; staff recommended transferring the parcel to the highest-bidding abutting owner instead of offering to the owner on the other half of the same house. Barbara Hart moved to designate the parcel at 5300 East Burgess Avenue for the abutting-landowner program; the motion was seconded and commissioners voted to approve the transfer. The board recorded the unpaid debt on the parcel as $600.
The transfer was approved by voice vote and the board carried on with other business, scheduling its next meeting for April 15 at 2 p.m.
