Council approves personnel changes, health-board appointment and jail staffing transfers

The Vanderburgh County Council on April 1 approved a package of personnel requests, a health-board appointment and several appropriations and transfers during its regular meeting.
Council unanimously approved the appointment of David Cook to the local Board of Health as presented by the health department.
The council also approved multiple personnel actions across departments, including reclassifications in the assessor and area plan commission offices, and a request from Burdett Park to raise EMT starting pay from $12 to $15 per hour to aid recruitment. Zach Wathan, Burdett Park director, said the EMT positions are typically older adults and retired fire personnel and that $12 per hour hampered recruitment.
On appropriations and transfers, the council approved $11,006.97 for accrued sheriff-related payments and a package of transfers across the sheriff, prosecutor, superior court, highway and health departments. Council also approved a request totaling $611,007.14 to fund confinement officers (including overtime, FICA and PERF) to prepare staffing for the upcoming jail construction.
Council entered and approved amendments to the salary ordinance and approved various contract and supply expenditures as presented. All motions on these items passed by voice vote.
