Rodeo association may use city stage for anniversary event if repairs agreed

Representatives of the Isanti Rodeo Association asked the Committee of the Whole for use of the city's stage for the association's 50th annual rodeo.
"For this fiftieth annual rodeo, we'd like to have two bands so that we don't have a lull," said Jason Paulzine, giving his address and explaining the association's requested arrangement to stage two bands by renting or borrowing the city's stage.
Council members and staff reviewed the stage's condition and discussed whether public works would need to assist in setup. Several council members said they would not want to start charging market rental rates for the stage but expressed support for allowing the rodeo to use it, noting the group's contributions to the community. "If something breaks, they'll fix it," one council member said, capturing the committee's expectation that the rodeo association would repair damage.
Miss Wood said staff would include language in the special event permit and resolution requiring the association to repair any damage and to meet the standard of the stage before release; staff also said public works would inspect and make necessary minor repairs annually. The committee voiced consensus to allow the rodeo to use the stage for this event and to document the arrangement in the special event permit rather than create a new general policy for all organizations.
No formal vote was required; staff will process the request through the special event permitting process and include repair/repair‑cost language in the permit application and resolution.
