Isanti City Council members discussed whether to continue repairing the city’s existing street‑dance trailer stage or to plan for replacement in the capital improvement plan.
Council member Becker and others reviewed the condition of the current trailer: it is a decades‑old, well‑built used trailer the city acquired used in about 2003 for roughly $4,000. Staff told the council the trailer remains serviceable but that wood decking is beginning to delaminate and will need replacement eventually.
Staff provided ballpark figures for alternatives: vendor estimates for a covered stage ranged roughly from $20,000 to $40,000 depending on size and whether it is covered; rental options for a covered, portable stage were cited in staff materials at roughly $1,400 to $2,800 per event. Council members discussed options to modify the existing trailer (for example, adding awnings or rolling canopies) versus buying a new unit and noted that structural integrity and wind safety would need evaluation if any permanent covering is added.
Becker asked staff to develop feasible options and cost estimates — including the cost to reinforce or add a canopy to the existing trailer, and the price of new replacement units — and to return with a recommendation on whether to include a replacement in the CIP. Council did not approve a replacement at this meeting and favored first exploring repair/modification possibilities.
Next steps: staff will identify specific modification and replacement options, provide costs (including potential CIP timing), and return to council for a decision.
