Putnam County approves bridge inspection contracts and selects Brandeis broom for highway department

Putnam County commissioners on March 2 approved multiple highway-related contracts and equipment purchases presented by Highway Director Clint Maddox.
The board approved a United contract for bridge inspections covering 2027–2030 and a separate United contract for pedestrian bridge inspection for the Old CR 550S pedestrian trail/Big Walnut Creek crossing for $1,100 (to be paid from the covered bridge fund). Commissioners also authorized execution of INDOT agreements identified as #2026-3-2-1 by resolution; motions passed unanimously.
Maddox presented two quotes for a new broom—Southeastern at $93,734 and Brandeis at $81,800—and the board voted to approve the Brandeis quote and to fund the purchase from proceeds of sold equipment pending County Council approval. Additional equipment items were discussed: a grinder quoted at $79,300, tractor purchases estimated near $190,000 with quotes still being gathered, and the arrival of one tandem truck with a second expected soon. Maddox reported Bridge 107 had been converted to a culvert and removed from the bridge inventory and that Bridge 148 is scheduled for conversion to a culvert depending on weather.
Commissioners also received and signed the annual operating report to the State.
All motions recorded for these highway items passed unanimously.
