Putnam County approves cumulative fire fund for Roachdale to buy new truck

Tiffany Deer presented the ordinance and said the proposed rate would be not to exceed $0.0333 on each $100 of assessed valuation, which the county estimates would generate about $62,000 per year to be used toward purchasing a new fire truck. President Andy Beck read the ordinance aloud before commissioners voted; Commissioner Tom Helmer moved to adopt the ordinance and Commissioner Rick Woodall seconded the motion.
The ordinance follows a public hearing held last month with the County Council. The action formally authorizes the district to levy the rate within the statutory limits and directs revenues to capital acquisition for the fire district.
The board approved the ordinance by unanimous vote. The decision next subjects the district to the usual implementation steps for cumulative funds, including assessment, certification, and placement on tax rolls as allowed by Indiana law.
