Summary
Pastor Andre Palmer and local organizers described May 7–8 National Day of Prayer events 'Awaken Southwest Michigan' at the John and Didi Howard Ice Arena in St. Joseph and detailed youth mental‑health programs, men's and women's initiatives and a hub for temporary shelter.
Pastor Andre Palmer, senior pastor of Bethel Christian Restoration Center, introduced community partners and described a slate of faith‑based outreach activities tied to the National Day of Prayer. Palmer said his ministry is partnering with organizers to hold an Eventbrite‑listed program called 'Awaken Southwest Michigan' on May 7 and May 8 at the John and Didi Howard Ice Arena in St. Joseph (2414 Willow Drive). ‘‘We're trying to get a spiritual awakening so more people will recognize God and put faith first,’’ Palmer said.
Carla Weiser, who Palmer introduced as a local organizer for Praise Southwest Michigan and the National Day of Prayer events, asked residents to reserve spots on Eventbrite and provided a contact phone number (269‑287‑0029). She said the events will include live music, worship, children participating in prayer, and a broad group of community leaders from multiple denominations.
Speakers also outlined ministry programs aimed at youth mental‑health support (Grounded Incorporation), men’s life groups ('Men of Valor'), women’s empowerment life groups and a day‑time hub to provide temporary shelter and services for people who are unhoused. The organizers said they plan to partner with other community groups and invited the committee and residents to participate.
The committee thanked the presenters and offered general support and questions about outreach reach and livestreaming; organizers said they would share flyers and encouraged attendees to connect on Facebook and through provided contact information.
