Community Foundation establishes perpetual K-9 Shelter fund; Centerstone recovery homes update

Dan Davis of the Community Foundation of Jackson County told the council that Dennis and Debbie Wayman of Medora have established a perpetual fund that will provide an annual grant beginning in Spring 2027 to support operating costs at the Jackson County K-9 Shelter. The grant payments will be administered through the County Auditor; the original Jackson K-9 Shelter fund will remain active and open to additional contributions.
Davis also provided an update on the Centerstone recovery-home project. He said the Level 3 home opened in October and remains at capacity with 10 people. The first of two Level 2 homes should open soon, and the second Level 2 home, which will serve women, is expected to open by the end of the third quarter of 2026. Davis noted these homes were established using Opioid Settlement funds.
Davis indicated he has enjoyed serving on the Jackson County Library Board and would be willing to serve another term. The council acknowledged the Community Foundation’s announcements during the meeting.
