Waxahachie council approves $125,011 for Midway Regional Airport engineering costs

The Waxahachie City Council approved a $125,011 supplemental appropriation on a voice/hand vote to cover engineering expenses for a fuel-farm expansion at Midway Regional Airport.

Dustin Deal, Director of Administrative Services for the City of Waxahachie, told the council the funds correct a timing issue: the grant award was approved in fiscal 2025 but the dollars were not encumbered and carried into fiscal 2026. “The item before you is a supplemental appropriation in the amount of a $125,011,” Deal said, adding that the funds are for engineering expenses related to the fuel farm expansion project.

Deal described the grant as a 90/10 reimbursable award and summarized the city’s share: “Of the 125,000, approximately a 112 Airport’s net cost is approximately 12,500, representing the 10% match,” he said. Staff recommended approval.

A councilmember moved to approve the appropriation; the motion was seconded and the mayor called for those in favor to raise their hands. The mayor declared the motion carried. No roll-call tally or recorded no votes were provided in the transcript.

After the vote, Councilman Ricky Atkins offered brief remarks thanking volunteers who supported a recent fire association fundraiser and urged residents to vote in the upcoming election. The meeting then recessed into executive session; the mayor later announced there would be no public action resulting from that closed session and adjourned the meeting at 7:36 p.m.
