At the start of the meeting the council adopted a proclamation recognizing March through May 2026 as North Texas Community Cleanup Challenge Month and encouraged residents, businesses and organizations to participate in regional cleanup events.
Assistant city manager Malacca Farmer (introduced by a council member) said the spring cleanup will be Saturday, April 11 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Hurst Coffee Shop and invited volunteers; the event will be coordinated with a regional Council of Governments effort.
The proclamation notes the environmental and fiscal costs of litter and illegal dumping and calls on residents to participate in cleanups to protect waterways and wildlife. The council recessed briefly to accommodate participants who wished to leave before the remainder of the agenda.
Volunteers and community groups were encouraged to contact city staff for details and sign-up information.
