Cedar Hill Museum of History reports 9,000 visitors, $220,000 raised and a five‑year strategic plan

Frankie Lee, president of the Cedar Hill Museum of History Board, told council on Dec. 9 that the museum has seen "over 9,000 visitors" since opening in April 2024 and has raised $220,000 for 2024–25 through fundraising, grants and partnerships.
Lee said the museum now displays 482 artifacts and has adopted a five‑year strategic plan (2025–2030) to guide exhibits, education, development and collections. The board plans phased installations: Phase 1 (prehistoric Cedar Hill) is complete; Phases 2 and 3 (early settlement and a community timeline covering 1870–1899) are slated for installation in 2026.
During questions, Councilmember Hayden asked how visitor counts are recorded; Lee said museum staff keep a sign‑in sheet and also tally entries with hatch marks to account for visitors who decline to sign. The museum also established a new $1,000 college scholarship for a Cedar Hill senior and named the first recipient, Bailey Francis from CHISD, honored in May 2025.
Council members praised the museum's persistence and the quality of the exhibits. Councilmember Sims commended the board for pursuing a strategic plan and for professionalizing operations; Lee and the board credited partnerships with the city and library staff for the museum’s progress.
