Residents press council on drainage problems and a contested demolition order

During the Feb. 24 public-comment period, two residents urged the council for help on separate property issues.
Ahad Kafoor said water repeatedly flows from a neighbor’s yard into his property at 205 Bremen Drive and has damaged his garage. "The water starts 02:00 in the morning till 6," Kafoor said, describing standing water in his side yard and requests that the city ask the neighbor to install a French drain. City staff and the assistant city manager offered to stay after the meeting to review photos and investigate the complaint.
Later, Nyla Smith asked the council to place on a future agenda a formal request to stay or reconsider a demolition order issued Jan. 13 for 1129 Desiree Lane. Smith said she located the homeowner, identified in her remarks as Barney Capshaw, and spoke with the nursing-home administrator who "confirmed they have no knowledge of any code violations." Smith asked the council to formally reconsider her February 13 motion at a future meeting so the matter can be reviewed.
City staff and the city attorney said they would meet with the speakers after the meeting to collect documentation and follow up; no formal action on either matter was taken at the Feb. 24 meeting.
