Hurst honors longtime police leader at council meeting

HURST, Texas — The Hurst City Council paused its regular business on Jan. 13 to honor a longtime Hurst Police Department leader and present a flag and service award to his family.
Mayor Henry Wilson read a proclamation honoring "Steve Rainey" for 35 years of service to the city and the police department, saying the honoree "left an indelible mark of excellence on the City of Hurst." Wilson noted the honoree joined the department in 1990 and was promoted to chief in 2018. "We have greatly appreciated his service that he gave to the city," Wilson said.
Mayor Pro Tem (Speaker 4) presented a flag that had been flown at half-staff at City Hall and told the family, "We present this flag to you with our thanks, with our gratitude. We're so thankful for Steve. We're so thankful for you." City Manager (Speaker 5) presented a service award to the honoree's spouse, Angela, saying the city wished to ensure the recognition for "35 years of service".
Family members and council members offered brief thanks and appreciation to the family during the ceremony. The council then moved on to its regular agenda.
