At the start of the meeting the council and community recognized the Waxahachie Police Department for achieving reaccreditation through the Texas Police Chiefs Association's voluntary accreditation program. Retired Chief Mike Alexander, representing TPCA, presented the certificate and described accreditation as a voluntary, 173-standard evaluation of policies and practices that addresses use of force, training, investigations, evidence management and other operational matters. He praised Chief Joe Weiser's leadership and said assessors and an accreditation committee of peers voted to reaccredit the department.
Mayor Billy Wallace and multiple council members commended Chief Weiser and the department for professional service, noting the reaccreditation reflects training, transparency and community-focused policing. The mayor also proclaimed Nov. 19, 2025 as GIS Day to recognize geographic-information professionals and promote geospatial education for students and citizens.
Mayor Wallace noted the department's reaccreditation is a rarity among Texas agencies and framed it as affirmation of Waxahachie PD's adherence to best practices.
