Veteran Services reports February activity; IDVA summarizes Senate Bill 433 accreditation deadlines

Veteran Services Officer Dillon Miller presented the February 2026 monthly report on March 30, reporting 79 appointments (132 year-to-date), 35 walk-ins (109 YTD), 355 incoming phone calls (870 YTD), 37 outgoing calls (89 YTD), 9 trips to the VA hospital (18 YTD), 941 van miles (1,555 YTD), 8 burial appropriations (15 YTD) and 207 forms filled (352 YTD). Commissioners approved the report as presented.
Under Miscellaneous business, Ron Higgins of the Indiana Department of Veterans' Affairs updated the commission on Senate Bill 433. Higgins said the bill reforms the requirements for Veteran Service Officers (VSOs), establishing state accreditation standards for county and city VSOs by Jan. 1, 2026, and requiring all City and County VSOs to meet stricter accreditation standards by June 30, 2026. The bill also allows counties to share a VSO with Commission approval and includes provisions protecting veterans from eviction while applying for housing assistance.
The Commissioners recorded the report and heard the IDVA update; no formal vote was required on the SB 433 update as presented.
