The Janesville Common Council voted unanimously Feb. 23 to approve a tentative three‑year labor agreement between the city and Teamsters Local 120 covering Jan. 1, 2026 through Dec. 31, 2028.
Human Resources Director Tara Sevinchuk presented the terms: 3% wage increases effective Jan. 1 in 2026, 2027 and 2028 (with the first increase retroactive to Jan. 1, 2026); Teamsters employees will contribute 12% of the total health‑insurance premium each year (consistent with non‑represented employees); a replacement of the 30‑month step with an added third‑year step and a new five‑year step; a one‑time $3 per hour wage adjustment for Mechanic 1 and Mechanic 2 positions; revised vacation and personal‑leave provisions and expanded paid holiday eligibility for part‑time employees (excluding Veterans Day); and other recruitment‑focused adjustments such as increased boot allowances and safety award compensation tied to preventable lost‑time injuries.
Sevinchuk said the union membership ratified the agreement Jan. 11 and staff estimated an approximate direct cost of $581,500 over the three‑year term (about a 9% increase over current compensation funding levels). Transit Director Rebecca Smith was in the audience to answer operational questions.
Council member Cass moved approval and Vice President Squire seconded; the council approved the resolution unanimously.
What happens next: Administration will implement pay adjustments, update payroll and benefits, and track costs as part of annual budgeting.
