The Janesville Common Council voted unanimously Feb. 23 to award three public‑works contracts recommended by city staff following a presentation from City Engineer Brad Rentz.
Rentz summarized the low bids and scopes: curb and gutter and sidewalk replacement (Ghesse Construction, $2,195,239.30), water and sewer system improvements part 2 (Madrell Excavating, $2,675,121.50), and Mount Zion Avenue reconstruction (Rock Road, $4,488,293.38). He said the Mount Zion project includes pavement reconstruction, curb and gutter, intermittent sidewalk, traffic signal replacements and utility infrastructure work, and staff noted a state grant contribution of just under $22 million toward that reconstruction program.
Council member Williams moved to award contracts C2026‑4, C2026‑5 and C2026‑7 to the low bidders and to express the council’s intent to fund them as outlined; Erdman seconded and the council voted unanimously to approve the awards.
What happens next: Staff will finalize contract documents and proceed to construction scheduling; funding and contract administration will be handled through the Public Works department.
