Wendy Johnson was elected chair of the Waxahachie Planning and Zoning Commission during a reorganization at the commission’s Oct. 14 meeting. Commissioners also selected Jenny Bridges as vice chair and welcomed three newly seated members.
The leadership change came as the commission reviewed seniority and the chair’s duties, which include running meetings, signing plat documents on the city’s behalf and serving as the commission’s representative on certain advisory committees. Chair responsibilities and seniority were outlined during a discussion led by the commission’s leadership.
Chad Hicks, who introduced the slate of members and described existing seniority, nominated Johnson for chair. The motion was seconded and carried unanimously. The commission then nominated and approved Jenny Bridges as vice chair.
Commissioners noted the time commitment the role requires and welcomed new members Ryan Simpson, Jimmy Porch and Bart Underwood. Members offered brief remarks of gratitude and encouragement to the newly elected leaders.
The commission adjourned after completing the reorganizational items and moving on to the evening’s land-development cases.
