VFW asks for greater city collaboration; resident urges handicapped parking at small dog park

Two residents spoke during the council’s public-comment period.
Remero Salas, speaking for Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3894 in Waxahachie, described the post’s outreach and volunteer programs, including Memorial Day flag placements, Veterans Day events and more than 300 hours of Toys for Tots support. Salas asked the city to improve the post’s visibility and expand opportunities to collaborate on events and support for veterans and local families: “We’re not asking for handouts. We’re asking to be seen, to collaborate, and to continue serving Waxahachie at a higher level,” he said.
Kathy Morrill told the council that older and mobility-limited users at the small dog park behind the farmers market struggle with an incline and uneven surfaces, and asked the council to consider adding two to four handicapped parking spaces and a short sidewalk connection to make the park more accessible for people with canes or walkers.
Mayor Wallace thanked both speakers and asked staff to accept photos and follow up on the park access request.
