Commissioners approve courthouse exhibit and fund Hometown Days carnival

County commissioners on April 8 approved two community requests: hosting an exhibit from the sexual-assault advocacy organization Better Way and a $2,500 county contribution toward the Hometown Days carnival.
Katie Madden, who identified herself as the mobile sexual-assault program coordinator for Better Way, described the "What We Wear" exhibit that pairs recreated outfits with survivor stories to challenge myths that clothing causes sexual assault. She said the display could be condensed to fit courthouse space, that an advocate would be present for visitors and that Better Way is willing to coordinate times and placement. Commissioners moved to host the display in a public but controlled courthouse location for a short period in April and approved the motion.
Festival organizer Ashley Lawrence described Hometown Days, set for the week of June 22 in partnership with a local 4‑H fair, and requested financial support to secure carnival rides and vendors. The board moved to provide $2,500 toward festival costs and the motion passed by voice vote.
