Dr. Dave Curran said he had spoken with three consortiums and confirmed that the diabetes and weight-loss drug Ozempic has contributed to rising premium costs; he said some consortiums plan not to cover it going forward, which could reduce rates. Dr. Curran also suggested separating the school and county pools might lower costs depending on claims experience, a point Co-Chair Kost questioned because larger pools typically spread risk.
Ms. Dodson cautioned that initial rates may look favorable but long-term costs depend on claims experience, calling the results "a wild card" given national trends. The committee did not take action but agreed to continue monitoring the issue.
