Community Corrections seeks state grant as overall program funding falls; advisory board nominees approved

Jamie France, director of Community Corrections & Adult Probation, told Putnam County commissioners on March 16 that the department planned to submit a grant application to the State of Indiana and needed a letter from the board as part of the application.
France said overall program funding has decreased by $20 million statewide, the first reduction of this magnitude the program has seen, and cautioned the department may need to trim its budget depending on the county’s eventual award. Commissioner Tom Helmer moved to authorize and sign the required letter; Commissioner Rick Woodall seconded and the motion passed unanimously. France said award notifications are expected by July 1.
France also reported two vacancies on the Community Corrections Advisory Board. He said the executive committee nominated Brian Hopkins and Jerrod Hornaday to four-year terms. Commissioner Helmer moved to confirm both appointments; Commissioner Andy Beck seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Next steps: The county will submit the grant application with the Commissioners' letter and await notification by July 1; advisory board appointments were confirmed and terms will be four years.
