Ripley County Council approves multiple additional appropriations, tables two health requests

At its Feb. 17 meeting the Ripley County Council approved a series of additional appropriations including liability insurance, courthouse repairs and several ARP-funded items, and tabled a $52,780 salary transfer and $1,000 clothing allowance for the Health department.
Peg Ehlers, Ripley County Council President Pro Tem, opened the Feb. 17 meeting and the council approved a series of additional appropriations to cover insurance, courthouse repairs and ARP-funded contractual services.
The council voted to appropriate $68,616 to the Auditor’s liability insurance line to cover county liability and three lawsuit deductibles. Councilman David Tebbing moved the motion; Stan Wiedeman seconded it and the motion passed with five votes in favor and two members absent.
The council also approved transferring $4,000 from Veregy funds to repair an alley at the courthouse/jail; that motion was moved by Stephanie Back and seconded by Diane Macek and passed 5–0 with two absent.
Members approved several annual ARP appropriations the auditor said must be recorded each year, including $71,052.26 for the Sunman Sewer Project (8950.37813.00000.0000) and contractual services line items of $500.00, $5,700.00, $11,811.23 and $327,955.00 (8950.37800.00000.0000). Motions to approve those appropriations were moved and seconded by council members and carried by the five members present.
The Health department had several small 2025 invoices that posted in 2026; the council approved closeouts of $1,828.29, $59.38 and $9.51 to clear those line items.
Two Health-related appropriations were tabled. Councilman Stan Wiedeman moved to table a proposed $52,780 salary transfer from the MCHC HFI account to Health General and a separate $1,000 clothing allowance request; the motions to table were seconded and carried with five yes votes and two absent.
The council approved a $15,000 appropriation for bioterrorism/building property upgrades for sheds in Milan after a motion from Wiedeman and second by Tebbing.
The meeting concluded after brief committee reports and a motion to adjourn that passed 5–0 with two absent. The council’s auditors and attorney were present for the meeting; Ron Decker and Andrew Decker were recorded as absent.
