Historical Society funding request: A representative of the Cass County Historical Society asked the council to continue an annual $50,000 support contribution, saying the amount is below $2 per county taxpayer and that the society is investing in preservation and digitization (more than 1,000 items digitized to date). The presenter described prior restoration work at the Long Home Museum (new roof, sewer, water heater and HVAC) and plans to apply for additional grants for downtown exhibit remodel work.
Tourism Commission funds: A presenter for the Cass County Tourism Commission requested permission to disperse innkeeper-tax funds and explained the commission is developing a strategic plan to separate the commission and the visitors bureau into two boards. Council members discussed procedures for budgets and noted a county balance was cited later in the meeting as $107,006.84. The commission asked for permission to use its funds; council members indicated support and said final procedures and board formation should be completed.
