The Little Elm Town Council approved its consent agenda during the Feb. 17 meeting; the consent items included a request to waive impact fees, permit fees and other associated charges for a “Home for a Hero” project proposed by Islandera Homes.
A council member flagged item K before the vote, describing the Home for a Hero program as a veteran housing initiative the town has supported in the past and asking councilors to continue that practice. The item was on the consent agenda and was not pulled for separate action.
During the regular session a motion and a second were offered for the consent agenda and the mayor announced the agenda passed by voice vote. No separate roll-call vote or amendment for the fee waiver was recorded in the transcript; because the item was part of the consent agenda, passage of the consent agenda carried the item.
Why this matters: fee waivers lower project costs for developers undertaking veteran housing and are a common tool municipalities use to encourage specific types of development.
The meeting then proceeded to an executive session; the council returned later and the mayor stated no action had been taken in executive session.
