The Waxahachie City Council approved a resolution authorizing staff to apply for the Texas Community Development Block Grant Downtown Revitalization Program set‑aside, a competitive state grant administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture and targeted to Main Street‑accredited downtowns.
Sandy, speaking for the downtown/Main Street program, said the set‑aside could provide up to $1,000,000 for projects such as sidewalk repairs, lighting, alleyway improvements and other streetscape or safety investments within the city’s official downtown boundary. She said the city must commit to spending $50,000 if awarded the grant and that the application requires a defined downtown boundary; changing that boundary before the April 7 application deadline could be difficult.
Council members and downtown advocates discussed potential projects and next steps; one council member clarified that the city would only incur the local match if the grant is awarded and accepted. The council approved the resolution by motion and voice vote.
