Sims Library wins 2025 National Medal for Museum and Library Services

Mayor Billy Wallace opened Monday’s meeting by recognizing the Sims Library after staff announced the library had been named a 2025 recipient of the National Medal for Museum and Library Services.
Jennifer, speaking for the library, told the council the honor is "the nation's highest honor that we could win as a library," and thanked staff, board members and patrons who supported the library’s programs. She read an email from a former Waxahachie resident and academic librarian who credited early story time at Sims with sparking a lifelong love of reading.
The award, presented by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, recognized the library’s community programming and long history serving Waxahachie. Jennifer thanked council members and singled out those who had written supporting letters for the nomination.
Council members praised the library’s recent outreach. One council member noted the medal is awarded to very few libraries nationwide and said the recognition reflects years of local programming and volunteer efforts.
The council did not take formal action on the award; the recognition was presented as part of the consent and recognition portion of the agenda. The meeting continued into regular business following the presentation.
