City manager previews spring events, honors neighborhood Good Samaritan and proclaims Women’s History Month in Cedar Hill

The City Manager outlined a packed spring calendar and several recognitions at the Cedar Hill city council briefing on March 10, previewing community events and honoring a local volunteer.
“We have actually a really exciting agenda ahead of you,” the City Manager said, noting activities between the briefing and the council’s next regular meeting on April 14. She invited council and residents to a range of events including Food Truck Thursdays at Signature Park (weekly, 5–8 p.m. starting March 19), a popular food event at the Allen E. Sims Recreation Center (March 20), and the Cedar Hill Fire Department awards banquet (March 21).
The City Manager announced that Councilman Dan Hayden will be recognized by the Dallas County Commissioners Court on Tuesday, March 17 at 9 a.m. She also said the city will honor Assistant Chief Steve Lafferty at a roast celebrating more than 32 years of service on March 25 at the Traffine Hickman Library.
The briefing included a planned presentation of a Good Samaritan award to John Edwards for repeatedly picking up litter in the Kingswood area. When the mayor asked whether Edwards had a city “litter kit,” the City Manager said staff would provide a picker-upper and bags if available and could present one during the council meeting.
The City Manager also said the city will proclaim March 2026 as Women’s History Month. Other calendar items announced included a board and commission appreciation event (April 16), a Beautification and Arbor Day celebration (April 18), the Cedar Hill ISD Education Foundation golf tournament (April 10), and the Motown Street Dance in historic downtown (April 25).
Councilor McCurdy said she would miss the Commissioners Court recognition because of spring break for her children but offered her well-wishes for Councilman Hayden. The briefing recessed to be followed by the regular council meeting at 7 p.m.
