Summary
At its April 27 meeting the Garden City Board of Education adopted Miller Johnson–recommended policy revisions and approved its human-resources report (2 hires, 1 resignation, 1 retirement) along with the consent agenda. Board members also heard committee updates on district purchases and upcoming votes.
The Garden City Board of Education on April 27 adopted a resolution to revise district board policy following recommendations from Miller Johnson School Policy Services and approved routine personnel and consent items.
The policy resolution, presented by Dr. Sciacca, implements the changes the policy committee reviewed on March 23 and again on April 27. "That the Garden City Board of Education adopt the proposal relation revisions to the board policy as presented by the policy committee," Dr. Sciacca said as he introduced the resolution. The board approved the measure by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
The board also approved the human-resources report presented by Mr. Fisher. The report, dated April 27, 2026, reflected two new hires, one resignation and one retirement. "That report reflects a total of 2 new hires, 1 resignation, and 1 retirement," Mr. Fisher said; the board approved the report as presented.
Earlier in the meeting the board approved the general consent agenda, including regular and closed meeting minutes from April 13 and committee minutes for building-and-facility and curriculum committees. The voice vote indicated approval with no opposition.
Board members heard committee updates connected to the decisions: Missus Sanders reported finance committee activity including a lease amendment from Crown Castle that will be reviewed in the May 11 board packet and scheduled for a board vote in June. Several procurement items were discussed by the finance committee as informational items (see separate finance committee report).
The board closed the meeting after hearing no public comments. The next regular board meeting is scheduled for May 11 at Garden City High School; Sharon Koller will present on student growth.
