"It allows left turns off of the main lanes, but it doesn't allow left turns off of either of the side streets," Wesley said, noting TxDOT and Denton County favor the option because it can be implemented alongside current 380 construction with the same contractor and schedule.
Council members and staff raised pedestrian and school‑crossing concerns near nearby neighborhoods and schools; staff said the R‑CUT does not readily accommodate pedestrian crossings and would require separate coordination with schools and safety partners. A signalized option could support pedestrian crossings but was described as more difficult to justify to TxDOT and Denton County and slower to implement because of signal procurement and electrical work.
No formal vote was taken on the intersection item; council members present indicated they were generally comfortable moving forward with the TxDOT‑aligned option and asked staff to keep council informed on mitigation for pedestrian and school crossings and on coordination with Denton County and TxDOT.
