Rigo told the council the project received $2,853,780.30 from the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program and that the city is responsible for 10% of the total project cost, estimated at $285,378.03. Staff recommended awarding the low bid of $1,237,954 to C.F. McDonald Electric, Inc.
Councilor Jessica asked whether the city's 10% share would come from the general fund; a staff member clarified payment will come from the water/wastewater fund, not the general fund. After discussion, the council approved the resolution by a recorded voice-style count of "6 to 1, absent," indicating one member absent and six in favor.
Staff said the generators will be installed at eight locations to reduce sanitary overflows, reduce overtime operations for crews during outages and help the city remain in compliance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requirements.
