Rosenberg council approves bid for Civic Center natural gas generator with FEMA support

The Rosenberg City Council voted to award a contract for a natural-gas generator at the Rosenberg Civic Center under Resolution R-4037, citing federal and state hazard-mitigation funding that covers most of the project cost.
Rigo, presenting the item, said the project is "being funded in part through the Texas Department of Emergency Management under the Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant Program" and that FEMA awarded $728,602 toward the generator. Staff recommended awarding the contract to C.F. McDonald Electric, Inc., which submitted the low bid of $346,267. Rigo said the city would be responsible for up to 10% of the total project cost (approximately $72,860.20).
Council members asked whether the Civic Center needs a generator for sheltering and events; staff said the Civic Center currently lacks a generator and that the new unit would allow events to continue and provide sheltering during outages. A motion to approve resolution R-4037 was made and carried by voice vote.
Staff noted the grant award amount exceeded expected needs; if surplus grant funds remain they would be returned as appropriate.
