Rosenberg — The Rosenberg Animal Control and Shelter reported a strong January 2026 month with a 97% overall live‑release rate and several community events supporting adoptions and vaccinations.
Shelter staff member Mister Polio presented the monthly report: 53 intakes in January (27 dogs, 21 cats, five others) and 66 outcomes (26 dogs, 35 cats, five others). Two animals were euthanized for severe injury or illness. "That put us at a 97 percent live release rate for the month of January," Polio told the council.
Polio highlighted community support during recent winter storms and several adoption events (shelter events plus partnerships with Houston Pets Alive and local retailers). He also confirmed the city will restart a limited monthly spay/neuter voucher program for residents; Polio said the program is funded through grants and identified the Petco grant among funding sources. Vouchers will be limited and announced on the Rosenberg Animal Control & Shelter Facebook page.
Council members praised shelter staff and volunteers and thanked partner organizations including George Junior High for hosting events. No policy changes or budget votes were taken; staff will continue outreach and post voucher availability online.
Next steps: shelter staff will post voucher details on Facebook and continue to report monthly outcome statistics to council.
