The Lafayette City board approved a $94,434 contract with Promise Land Construction for a city concrete project and authorized a notice to proceed, approved claims totaling $8,266,359.89 and signed off on multiple spring special-event permits at its meeting.
The board awarded the engineering contract to Promise Land Construction after staff said the company was the lowest responsive, responsible bidder. "The contract is with Promise Land Construction in the amount of $94,434," a staff member told the board. After a motion and a voice vote, the board approved the contract and then approved a notice to proceed effective immediately.
Paula King of the controller's office presented claims for approval totaling $8,266,359.89. "I have claims for approval on the amount of $8,266,359.89 for approval," King said. The board moved to approve the claims by voice vote.
Deputy Chief Brad Bishop of the Lafayette Police Department gave public notice that the department intends to apply for the local burn solicitation grant and will enter a memorandum of understanding with the sheriff's department to share any award; no board action was required. "Just here today to give the board public notice that Lafayette Police Department again intends to apply for the burn local solicitation grant this year," Bishop said.
The board also approved several special-event permits. Molly Walsh of Greater Lafayette Commerce requested street closures for the farmers market beginning the first Saturday in May and running through Oct. 31, with holiday mini-markets Nov. 21 and Dec. 5; the board approved the street-closure plan. "We are here requesting the street closures for the farmers market, beginning Saturday, May 2, running every Saturday until October 31," Walsh said.
Christian Cantero requested a permit for Saint Boniface Church's Living Way of the Cross re-enactment on April 2–3 and said the group anticipates roughly 500 participants; the board approved the permit and noted departmental coordination on timing. "We anticipate about 500 people will attend and participate," Cantero said.
Jean Croshan of Tree Lafayette sought a partial closure of Chaucer Drive for an Arbor Day program on May 2; the board approved that request. Reverend Adam Barkat of Saint James Lutheran requested a Palm Sunday procession on March 29 involving 150–200 participants and asked to process down Cincinnati Street; after brief discussion about whether the route would remain on sidewalks or use the street, and coordination with the police captain, the board approved the permit.
The meeting concluded after the board completed its agenda of routine approvals and event permits.
