Commission approves conditional-use permit for auto-glass business at 2239 Fort Worth Highway

The Weatherford Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved a zoning map amendment to C-1 and a conditional-use permit limiting auto activity to auto-glass repair at 2239 Fort Worth Highway.
City staff described the proposal as commercial/residential glass repair with an auto-glass component requiring a conditional-use permit. "The conditional-use permit will be covering the auto repair section side of their business," the presenting staff member said, and clarified that the proposed auto work is limited to glass repair and replacement rather than engines, transmissions or general mechanical work.
The applicant, Tim Clark, addressed the commission and said the property had been vacant and that his tenant, a glass-repair business, plans to clean up and improve the existing building rather than operate a full-service repair shop. "When they said auto repair, it's not auto repair. Won't be cars sitting out there with the hoods up and stuff being fixed," Clark said, describing cosmetic improvements and an eventual longer-term plan to redevelop the site.
Staff recommended approval of both the zoning map amendment and the conditional-use permit subject to the conditions discussed; the commission approved the applications by motion (moved by Kathy Wiley; seconded by Chris Craig) and recorded the motion as passing unanimously.
The conditional use restricts the permitted auto-related activity to glass repair and replacement as described in the application; any change to the proposed scope would require further review.
