Weatherford utility director updates board on electric projects and meter upgrades

Farley described a 4,300-linear-foot overhead feeder project to improve three-phase service and to provide a feeder tie between the railroad substation and the Lake Weatherford substation. He also reviewed a Palapinto Street project that would convert about 6,500 linear feet of overhead lines to underground service and said the work will require coordination with AT&T, Spectrum and TxDOT. Several projects require joint agreements with Encore and other utilities, which Farley said can delay schedules.
On completed work, Farley pointed to a new main feed along Highway 51 (Beebe Fielder to Airport Road) to support nearby commercial development and future residential subdivisions. He noted this extension is sometimes joint-use with Encore and other providers.
Farley also explained that the automated metering base stations needed replacement after more than a decade of service. He told the board the three base-station replacements totaled “less than $200,000” and should provide another 10 to 15 years of reliable meter reads; he said the electric system will add about 1,000 customer meters over the next year.
Board members thanked Farley for the update and asked follow-up questions about service area lines and construction sequencing. No formal action was taken on these items at the meeting.
