Weatherford authorizes JL Construction contract for Spring Street water and wastewater work

The Weatherford Municipal Utility Board voted to authorize the city manager to execute a contract with J and L Construction LLC for water and wastewater improvements on Spring Street, Eastview Drive and Garner Road.
Matt Leppler summarized the project’s scope: more than 4,800 linear feet of 6-inch water line, about 2,000 linear feet of 8-inch water line, roughly 4,000 feet of 8-inch wastewater line and additional smaller segments. He told the board the contract’s notice-to-proceed date is scheduled for April 26 and that the contractor has 240 calendar days to complete the work, with repaving planned after the underground work is finished.
The agenda item described the authorization as “not to exceed $3,495,885.” During the presentation Leppler referenced a contract amount of $3,400,000; the board did not resolve the numerical discrepancy on the record before voting. The motion to approve the project was made by Ken Davis and seconded by Tom Novak; the board approved the item.
Board members asked one clarification about useful life for the new installation; staff noted the infrastructure being replaced dated to as early as 1915 in some sections and indicated an expectation the new materials would last substantially longer. The board did not attach conditions to the award beyond standard contract provisions and scheduling.
