Weatherford board awards nearly $3.0 million water improvements contract for Franklin and Fort Worth Highway

The Weatherford Municipal Utility Board approved a construction contract to combine several water master plan projects into a single initiative that includes upsizing and replacing aging lines and adding redundancy between storage tanks.
Project presenter Matt Leppler said the contract covers more than 15,000 linear feet of water pipe (6‑inch to 12‑inch), 108 valves and 33 fire hydrants. He identified one key element as the connection from the Franklin water tank to the Harbinger Hill tank, which will improve conveyance and enable future pump upgrades. "This project will include over 15,000 linear feet of water pipe from 6 inch to 12 inch, a 108 water valves, and 33 fire hydrants," Leppler said.
Leppler told the board the project was advertised in January, attracted 11 bidders, and the lowest responsive bidder was Capital Underground Utilities LLC at just under $3,000,000. The contract period is 270 days with construction notice to proceed in March and anticipated completion in late November.
Board members asked whether streets affected by construction would be resurfaced. Leppler said the roads will be patched during construction and then receive a full‑width resurface on completion. The board voted to award the contract not to exceed $2,999,605.
No amendments or protest motions were recorded in the meeting minutes; staff will manage scheduling and reopening plans with the city's pavement program.
