Broadview fire chief reports successful resuscitation, announces hiring and free CPR classes

Fire Chief Matt Martin told the Broadview Village Board that Broadview first responders recently revived a resident found pulseless after shoveling snow and that the person is now talking.
"We were able to bring this person, from being pulseless and breathless to sitting up and talking, and having another chance," Chief Martin said, commending fire and police personnel for their prompt CPR and life-saving care.
Martin also announced that the Broadview Fire Department is recruiting to fill five vacancies. Applications will be available through the National Testing Network and posted on the department’s social media and the village website. He urged qualified applicants to apply when the posting goes live and said the department will post the announcement publicly.
The chief said the department will resume CPR classes in January and encouraged residents to ensure working smoke and carbon-monoxide detectors and to have furnaces serviced ahead of cold weather. He provided the department’s nonemergency contact number for residents with questions.
The report was given during routine department updates; trustees thanked the department for the response and offered praise. No formal action or funding for hiring was taken during the meeting; trustees asked that the job posting be placed on the village website, which Administrator Leticia Jones said will be done.
